Witchmark Observatory Stargazing - January 2026
Join us for a night under the stars!
The evening comprises of an hours interactive talk about how to use the telescope, what all the bits and knobs do on a telescope and then some more information about what we can expect to see. I'll then show you the Observatory to show you what that does and how it works.
Once that's over, we then start observing the night sky through the telescopes. As long as its visible (It moves around of course and not always in the sky that night) you'll be able to see the bands on Jupiter and its moons, Saturns rings, the Orion Nebula, the Andromeda Galaxy plus more.
After a while, we'll bring out some jacket potatoes with cheese and butter and hot chocolates (or tea and coffee if you prefer) for a stargazing snack to keep you warm.
It does get cold where we are as we're pretty exposed and rural (especially in December, January and February).. so warm clothes are a must.. however we do have a lovely Stargazers lounge for you to use with heaters to warm through and toilets.. so everything is catered for :)
Here's the important bit!!
Ticket Types
If you're an adult, or want to share a telescope with one other.. simply click the "Standard Ticket" option. Two standard tickets share a telescope.
If you're a family (Up to two adults and up to two children) then please select the Family Ticket Option. A family shares a telescope.
Weather
Whilst we love to see as many people at our observatory as possible, we are completely at the mercy of the weather. Do NOT worry. If you don't get the opportunity to visit then we simply either roll you onto the next month, or, offer a full refund.
Also, we do understand that people have other commitments, if you can't make it to an evening, then you'll be first on the list for the next visit.
Small Print Stuff
For insurance purposes only children MUST BE over 10 years of age. Children are completely under the responsibility of parents. We do respectfully ask that parents keep their children close by for both the enjoyment of other guests and the protection of the equipment being used.
We are very rural and live up a farm track. Don't bring a sports car! We have adequate parking, however we do ask that people don't block neighbours gates or access. We will be there to direct you anyway.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
